32 killed by one person with two 9mm automatic handguns...
When the news of the Virginia Tech school shooting appeared on TV, I was very worried. I kept asking what school it was, since it was on Channel 8 and I couldn't understand a crap of Mandarin that was being spoken.
Even though I know something like that would probably never happen here, tell me this: does it make the shooter any different from a suicide bomber or a terrorist?
By striking fear within the hearts of many, he kills himself afterward, not wanting to face the dread of having known that he took the lives of many innocent victims caused by his blind fury to the school. According to friends, one of the deceased happened to be a professor who was a leading scientist in searching for a cure for Cerebral Palsy.
Also, the student was known to possess a violent background. In school, playwrights he did were notably disturbing, but no one ever seemed to pursue the matter. His plays can be found
here, as well as a testimony from a former classmate of the attacker. Please note that they
are rather disturbing, and I didn't read past the 5th page of the first play.
As much as I would sympathise with him for not once finding joy in his life, his background gives him no reason to destroy the lives of so many. My heart goes out to the families of the victims.
